SMCVS's Community & Voluntary Transport need your help!

Do you have some time to spare and a wish to help others?

    Voluntary Transport :

If you have a car and can spare just a couple of hours a week on a regular basis, you could become a Volunteer Driver.

Who would I be helping?

You would be helping people who are unable to use public transport and have no private transport available: those helped are usually elderly or disabled.

What type of journeys are involved?

You may be asked to take people to:

  • Shop / Personal business appointments

  • Visit friends / relations in hospital / Nursing Homes etc

  • Day Care facilities / luncheon clubs etc

  • Health related appointments at: dentist / doctor / chiropody / hospital outpatients etc

  • Social / Recreational activities

Are there any rewards?

Volunteer drivers receive expenses at 38p per mile and a great sense of "job satisfaction" from a feeling that you are providing a valued service and making new friends.

Are there other ways to help?

Volunteer drivers are required all over the Staffordshire Moorlands area.  However, in both Biddulph and Cheadle, volunteers are needed to staff the office where they take the bookings for the transport service and liaise with drivers.

Community Transport:

How can I help?

If you are prepared to drive a minibus then the Community Transport Service would also appreciate your help.  You would drive a wheelchair accessible vehicle operated under Section 19 permit legislation - which means that that P.C.V license is not required.

Training will be provided so you will be welcome even if you have not driven a minibus before.

Who would I be helping?

Members of non-profit making organisations in the Staffordshire Moorlands use the Community Transport minibuses to attend meetings, day care facilities and social functions.
