K L Leek and District Churches Youth Worker Project We employ a Youth Worker to promote Christian youth work in Leek and the surrounding districts. The Youth Worker works with the Churches and the middle and senior schools taking lessons, assemblies, lunchtime clubs and mentoring, as well as organising and being involved in youth initiatives in the community. Its aims are to stimulate public interest in the area, to promote high standards of planning and architecture and to protect features of historic interest. Members work on their projects and join in the monthly workshop. Our priorities are sharing and learning. For more information please contact Mary Bell (t): 01538 385458 Leek Dyslexia & Literacy Support The aim of Leek Dyslexia & Literacy Support is to raise awareness of dyslexia and support dyslexics in the community to allow them to reach their full potential. The group : raises funds to offer part funded 1-2-1 tuition for adults and children, accesses funding to deliver dyslexia awareness training to various groups, provides free information, advice and guidance and offers initial screening to adults, children and the workplace. We have a choice of over 800 toys, games and videos to hire on a fortnightly basis. The equipment includes: jigsaws, interactive toys, outdoor play equipment and special needs equipment. We also stock musical instruments, a large range of fancy dress costumes and cd-roms. We are based at All Saints First School, Cheadle Road, Leek and run a free weekly play session for all of our members. We offer support and help to the distressed, despairing and suicidal. Face to face confidential interviews are also available if callers so wish. Callers can also email at: jo@samaritans.org. We give our members lunch, and they can join in a number of activities, including - dominoes, a raffle, bingo and cards. We go on a number of trips each year to various places of interest, shopping trips and to the theatre. We love to welcome new members and volunteers. We have around 700 members and use venues in Leek. The group was formed in October 2005. We are offering to work with people with disabilities and their carers to help relieve some of their stresses. Members of the public are also welcome. We are dedicated healers and will be giving out time and services freely, but donations are most welcome. The healings will be Reiki & Spiritual healing - both of which are gentle, holistic restoring balance in mind, body and spirit. This is non religious. We offer our telephone ring around system which is available to the entire Staffordshire Moorlands called "Watch Out" and this alerts members to crimes within their area. We also provide signage for all Neighbourhood Watch areas. Toys may be borrowed if they have a child with a disability such as physical or sensory impairment, learning or behavioural difficulty, language and communication delay, poor concentration or any other special needs.
