Activities are carried out in accordance with the Scout Association policy, organisations and rules. These include both indoor and outdoor activities, ie: camping, hiking, hobbies, first aid, general interests, social and cultural. It is under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Defence, but its units are based on their local communities and are part of their own city, town or village. The Corps is a uniformed organisations offering a wide range of activities, from sports to learning to fly gliders and powered air craft. Skills in radio procedure, model making are encouraged and there is a big commitment to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Foundation was established in 1972 to develop new approaches to ageing
that link policy, research and practice.
Current initiatives include: The Centre for Intergenerational Practice, The Welsh Strategy for Intergenerational Practice, The North Staffordshire Health Improvement Project, The Advocacy and Dementia Project, and two specialist employment projects for people in midlife. The Foundation also hosts the Older People's Advocacy Alliance (UK) and the International Consortium for Intergenerational Programmes. For more information see: Biddulph Citizens Advice Bureau To ensure that individuals do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available to them, or through an inability to express their needs effectively, and equally, to exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services. The bureau offers generalist advice in all areas and specialist debt and welfare rights advice. The service operates from the main bureau five mornings a week and from an outreach on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday mornings. This 18th century corn mill demonstrates the use of water power to grind corn, and as such is both a tourist attraction and educational. The trust is run entirely by volunteers and provides an interest to the many retired people who maintain the mill and act as stewards. Open limited periods Easter to end of September. C Cheadle & District Home Link Scheme Cheadle & District Home Link Scheme is a voluntary organisation serving the elderly/housebound across the Staffordshire Moorlands, with day care, elderly support groups, befriending, transport (both by car and fully accessible minibuses), drop-in and other supportive services. confidential counselling to children
and young people affected by the
divorce and separation of
their parents.
Referrals are received from parents, school staff and health professionals. Through counselling and support children are provided with the opportunity to develop the necessary coping strategies to come to terms with conflict within their families and to learn to live with the ways in which their family life may be changing.
