CRB Disclosure Service
SMCVS acts as Registered Body with the
CRB to help you run all the necessary check on your staff and volunteers.
|
IMPORTANT
NEWS:
CRB UPDATE
WE would like to clear up some possible confusion over the need for
people working with children or vulnerable adults to register with the
Independent Safeguarding Authority.
As most of you will probably be aware, the new Home Secretary, Theresa
May, has confirmed that it is no longer necessary for those people to
register.
But can we be
absolutely clear – it is only the registration that has been stopped.
ISA and the CRB will continue their roles in Safeguarding.
The Home Office has said: “…existing requirements concerning CRB
(Disclosure) checks will remain in place; those entitled to such
checks can continue to apply for them.’’
The definition of 'Regulated Activity' remains, as do all the other
provisions introduced on October 1, 2009.
This means that:
-
an Enhanced
Disclosure must be in place
before anyone can commence 'regulated activity’ with
the vulnerable.
-
it will continue to
be a criminal offence for the individual or organisation to fail to
have such a Disclosure in place.
-
organisations still
have a duty to refer any instance of discipline or dismissal for
action posing a threat or potential threat to the vulnerable, ISA.

Current CRB Requirements
SMCVS are able to offer
the opportunity for member organisations and local community support
groups to undertake appropriate disclosure requests from the Criminal
Records Bureau and registration with the new Independent Safeguarding
Authority. .
These requests used to be
called "Police Checks" and the purpose of them is to allow responsible
organisations to include disclosure in their recruitment process where
workers or volunteers come into contact
with children or vulnerable adults.
SMCVS has registered body
status and can advise and support you in the process of deciding when and
how to ask for disclosure and will act as the signatory for appropriate
applications.
This process is now compulsory
for all individuals working and volunteering with children and vulnerable
adults.
Our scale of charges for
the service and the current charges made by CRB for paid workers and
